Julie is a neurological physiotherapist passionate about ensuring people with neurological conditions have access to expert assessment, support, and rehabilitation services—no matter where they live in Aotearoa New Zealand. She is equally committed to sharing knowledge and building capability across the physiotherapy profession.

Julie has completed advanced competencies in the assessment and treatment of neurological conditions, including certification in LSVT BIG®, PD Warrior®, and as New Zealand’s first PWR!Moves® Certified Therapist—delivering evidence-based exercise interventions for people with Parkinson’s. She has also undertaken certification in Advanced Vestibular Rehabilitation, supporting people with dizziness and balance issues through skilled assessment and treatment.

Julie is currently leading the clinical intervention component of a research study focused on Spinocerebellar Ataxia type 1 (SCA1), exploring the impact of cerebellar transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) combined with exercise.

In her role with the Duncan Foundation, Julie has developed expertise in supporting people affected by the late effects of Polio, as well as those living with Parkinson’s, Dystonia, Friedreich’s Ataxia, and other neurogenetic conditions. She is also responsible for leading and coordinating a national team of Duncan Foundation-accredited clinicians who provide condition-specific neurological rehabilitation throughout New Zealand.

Julie’s clinical background spans acute neurosurgical and neuro-medical units, stroke and spinal rehabilitation, community and inpatient services, intensive care, vestibular clinics, neuro hydrotherapy, and long-term neurodegenerative conditions. Her approach integrates deep clinical knowledge with a drive to innovate and improve access to care for people living with neurological conditions
