cann is proud to partner with the Neurogenetics Research Clinic (NGRC), part of the Centre for Brain Research at the University of Auckland. Through this collaboration, we support an observational study focused on inherited ataxias — contributing to a deeper understanding of disease progression and improved care over time.

Our funding helps make it possible for physiotherapy and occupational therapy assessments to be offered as part of the NGRC study. These functional assessments support participants during their clinic visits and generate detailed reports. With participant consent, these reports can be shared with clinicians in our national clinical allied neurological network (cann), allowing local therapists to:

  • Address specific allied health needs identified during the NGRC clinic
  • Integrate tailored recommendations into rehabilitation plans

This partnership strengthens the connection between research and real-world support — ensuring that what is learned in clinic settings can be put into action in people’s home regions. It promotes continuity of care, personalised interventions, and better long-term outcomes.

Our work with the NGRC reflects cann's commitment to research-informed care, collaboration across clinical teams, and turning insights into meaningful support for people living with progressive neurological conditions.
